We are a small, independent yarn and coffee shop run by Karen and Kirsty on Bloomfield Avenue in East Belfast. Every order is picked and packed by us, in the shop, from the same shelves our local customers browse. Many of our American visitors first find us while travelling in Ireland, then keep ordering from home once they discover we ship worldwide. If you are planning a trip to Belfast, come and visit us, and if you cannot make the journey, your order gets the same care either way.
Donegal Tweed is spun in County Donegal, in the north west of Ireland, and its flecked, heathered character is recognised the world over. We stock two ranges: Traditions, an Aran weight Donegal tweed, and Faerie Folk, a DK weight Donegal mohair tweed. We are the only stockist in Northern Ireland offering Donegal Tweed on the cone, which gives you generous yardage for larger projects such as sweaters and blankets, often at better value than buying ball by ball.
Alongside the tweed, we carry hand dyed yarn from Irish independent dyers including Irish Artisan Yarn and Dye Candy, plus our Made in Ireland collection of yarns spun and dyed across the island. These are small batch yarns with real provenance, the kind of thing you simply cannot pick up in a chain store, and our patterns and kits designed for our Donegal Tweed, including the Ailbiona McLochlainn range, travel particularly well as complete projects.
Shop online in the normal way and enter your address at checkout, where shipping is calculated for you. Postage costs depend on the size and weight of your order, and larger orders tend to get noticeably better value per skein, so a sweater quantity or a shared order with knitting friends makes the shipping work much harder. For the best current rates on a bigger order, contact us before you buy and we will find the most economical way to get it to you. Any import duties or taxes on arrival are set by your own country's customs authority.
Do you really ship to the USA? Yes. We post orders to the United States and Canada regularly, and American customers are among our biggest buyers.
Is your Donegal Tweed genuine? Yes. It is spun in County Donegal, Ireland. We stock it because it is the yarn our shop was built around.
How much yarn do I need for a sweater? Message us with your pattern and size and we will work it out with you before you order. That is the advantage of buying from a real shop.
Is it cheaper to order more at once? Almost always. Shipping is the fixed part of the cost, so the more yarn in the parcel, the better the value of every ball in it.
