NEW YARN ALERT!! Browse our BRAND NEW 4 Ply Sock Donegal Tweed called Lore In Oil. It's a Merino Mohair blend and absolutely divine!

Meet John Arbon Textiles, where a love of wool and the craft of spinning gives each yarn its character. Their Exmoor Sock yarn tells that story through its fibres, bringing together local Exmoor Blueface wool with Corriedale, Zwartbles and a little nylon for durability. At Folklore Yarns, we invite you to explore these thoughtfully blended yarns, enjoy choosing your colours and discover how different fleeces bring their own qualities to your stitches. From a comforting pair of socks to a much-loved garment, make something that celebrates the wool as much as the finished piece.

John Arbon are an independent micro business making yarns and fibre tops in their small scale, worsted spinning Mill in North Devon (one of only a handful still operating in the UK). They source fibre locally, or through trusted suppliers in the Falklands and worldwide.

They use predominantly vintage machinery that we have lovingly restored and maintained to create wonderful artisan goods using a hands-on approach to production.

John Arbon yarns: from a Devon mill to your next favourite make

Discover John Arbon Textiles at Folklore Yarns, where carefully chosen fibres and hands-on craftsmanship give each yarn its character. An independent, small-scale spinning business in North Devon, John Arbon creates yarns using predominantly vintage machinery, restored and maintained with care. It’s an approach that puts the wool and the making process at the heart of the story, producing yarns you can enjoy from your first swatch to your finished garment.

Thoughtfully blended, beautifully spun

Different sheep breeds bring different qualities to yarn, and John Arbon’s blends make the most of those individual characteristics. Springiness, softness, lustre and durability all have a part to play. Explore yarns that celebrate those differences, whether you’re looking for a comforting pair of socks, a textured cardigan or a colourwork project that lets your chosen shades shine.

Devonia DK: three Devon breeds, one distinctive yarn

John Arbon Devonia DK combines 50% Exmoor Blueface, 30% Devon Bluefaced Leicester and 20% Devon Wensleydale, all breeds local to the mill. Exmoor Blueface brings spring, Bluefaced Leicester contributes softness and lustre, and Wensleydale adds a beautiful sheen. Worsted spun at the John Arbon mill, this 100% wool DK yarn offers approximately 233 metres per 100g skein. Choose it for garments and accessories that celebrate the natural character of wool.

Exmoor Sock: made for more than the sock drawer

Discover John Arbon Exmoor Sock, a blend of 60% Exmoor Blueface, 20% Corriedale, 10% Zwartbles and 10% nylon. Local Exmoor Blueface provides bounce and durable character, while Corriedale adds softness and stitch definition. Naturally dark Zwartbles fibres bring a subtle fleck of colour, with nylon adding strength. Available in 50g skeins with approximately 200 metres each, it’s a versatile option for socks, garments and accessories, with smaller skeins that invite you to play with stripes and colourwork. Follow the recommended wool-cycle washing instructions and use a mild detergent.
