At Folklore Yarns, we have a passion for knitting and crochet and we are on a mission to share the love of our craft with those who are keen to learn. Whether you're new to knitting or crochet and want a hands-on approach to learn the basics, or if you're a skilled crafter who wants to learn more challenging patterns, we have a class available and we welcome you to come along!
You’ll get to meet a fantastic group of likeminded crafters and explore our range of different yarns, threads and tweeds that we have available in store. We will be on hand to provide guidance and support as you create your very own handmade product.
All the upcoming classes and workshops being held here at Folklore Yarn + Coffee, Belfast. All classes are run within the current guidelines, and are limited to 8 places to allow for comfortable social distancing, and take place upstairs in the shop.
No matter what your current level of knitting skill is, we welcome you into Folklore Yarns to learn a new skill and develop your creative talents. In our knitting class for beginners, we will go over the basic of knitting, including;
How to cast on and off
How to complete a stitch
How to avoid dropping a stitch
How to hold the knitting needles
Because knitting is such a practical skill, we find that a hands on approach in our face-to-face sessions is the best way to learn the craft. We are there in real time to provide advice and guide you as you get to grips with it.
Sock Knitting Class
The sock knitting class is the one we recommend to new knitters. Socks are a relatively straight forward knitting pattern to follow, which is great for helping you in perfecting the basics of knitting.
When you finish this class, you're left with a beautiful pair of socks that you have crafted on your very own. It’s the launchpad into introducing you into the world of knitting and showing you what your talents are capable of producing.
Knitted socks also make for great gifts and the better you get at it, the more you can customise them, introduce new colours and try out various patterns. If you would like to book the Sock Knitting Class, add it to your basket now, or contact us if you have any queries.
If you consider yourself to be a skilled knitter, you may want to join our advanced and intermediate knitter classes. These sessions are great for challenging your skills and learning how to complete more complex patterns.
Learn from a team of expert knitters to create more challenging projects such as vests, baby clothes and intricate designs. In the classes, we aim to push your knitting ability and share in the expertise of our craft. You’ll be surprised at what you can accomplish with a little guidance and support.
Due to the advanced skills required, the intermediate/Improver knitting class is a little more expensive than the beginners classes. The knitting instructors will guide you through the challenging patterns, keeping a close eye to ensure that you are on the right track.
We believe in a hands-on approach for advanced classes and at the end of the session, you’ll be left with a completed knitting project that encapsulates the level of your knitting talent. This is a great way to develop your skill and build upon your craft.
If you would like to join the intermediate/Improver knitting class simply add it to your basket or contact us if you have any questions or queries.
Do you know someone who would enjoy attending a knitting class but are you unsure if they would have the time in their busy schedule to join? If so, why not treat a special someone to a Folklore and Yarn Gift Card.
With a gift card, the recipient has the choice to book themselves in for an upcoming knitting class or alternatively treat themselves to the fantastic range of knitting equipment that we have available. The gift cards are available for both in-store and online purchases.

At Folklore Yarns, we are more than just a shop that sells yarns, we are a community of knitters and crocheters and keen to share with others the love of our craft.
The Knit and Natter Fridays are not a workshop or class for those wanting to learn how to knit, but rather a social event where everyone can come together and learn from one another if they so wish.
Visitors can sit back and relax with a cup of our deliciously roasted coffee and treat themselves to one of locally sourced baked goods. You can also browse our fantastic range of yarns, tweeds and knitting accessories.
Keep an eye out on our social media channels for upcoming knitting classes and workshops, we also usually hold seasonal events where you can create knitted products in different seasonal themes. Give us a follow or like on Instagram and Facebook.
