This versatile cardigan pattern from Ailbíona blends 20th Century references from the tennis cardigans of the 1920s to Kurt Cobain's MTV Unplugged sweater, creating a contemporary silhouette. 

As with so many of Ailbíona's designs, this pattern is written with many ways in which to adapt and change for tailoring to your own style. There are instructions for both Aran and DK yarns, cropped or full length, there are also pockets and contrast stripes which are simple yet effective details.

Pattern Requirements

Yarn: The Aran pattern was designed with our Traditions Aran Donegal Tweed (160m/100g) 

Cropped with pockets: 5 (5, 6, 6, 6, 7, 7, 7) 100g/3.5 oz balls

Full Length with pockets: 5.5 (6, 6.5, 7, 7, 7.5, 8, 8) 100g/3.5 oz balls

Note: If opting for contrasting stripes along edges, scrap yarn amounts of additional colours will be required.

Gauge

18sts x 24 rows = 10cm x 10cm in stockinette for main fabric

23sts x 30 rows = 10cm x 10cm in 2 x 2 rib for edgings

Needles

A: circular needle, 4.5mm (US 7) in diameter, or as needed to meet gauge for main fabric

B: circular needle, 3.5mm (US 5) in diameter, or as needed to meet gauge for edgings
